WEST CHESTER – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team pushed their win streak to seven games as the Warriors swept West Chester, 25-22, 25-20, 25-15, in a PSAC East match on Saturday afternoon inside Hollinger Field House.
In a battle of unbeatens in conference play, the Warriors improved to 9-5 on the season and 3-0 in the East while the Golden Rams slipped to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the league.
During the seven game win-streak, which is the longest since ESU won 10 in a row during the 2021 season, the Warriors have defeated five opponents in straight sets.
Notables vs. West Chester
- Anna Coulter led the way offensively as the sophomore recorded a match-high 13 kills on an impressive .611 hitting percentage while adding three blocks and two digs
- Taylor Haan recorded her second straight double-double and third in the last fourth match as the junior totaled 33 assists and 10 digs to go with three kills and a pair of aces
- Redshirt senior Kaylee LoPresto finished with nine kills, eight digs, one ace and one block assist while fellow classmate Sydney Stone added eight kills and five digs
- Senior Makayla Baca totaled a team-high 22 digs and six assists while graduate student Leonor Chambel and junior Makaela McComas each had seven digs
- Leading West Chester was Hailey Lewis in kills with nine, Sydney Heffner in digs (25) and Jamie Byrne in assists (15)
- ESU and West Chester each had six aces while the Golden Rams held the advantage in blocks, 6-4
- The Warriors produced a higher efficiency in all three sets and boasted a .262-.2126 advantage in the category by the end of the match
- Dating back to 2019, ESU has now beaten West Chester in four the last six meetings and improved their record to 45-38 all-time in the series
How it Happened vs. West Chester
- With the Warriors up 2-1 to start the match, West Chester went on a 5-0 run with the assist of three ESU errors to pull ahead 6-2. The teams traded the next several points as the Golden Rams maintained a four-point edge (12-8), until ESU produced a 5-0 spurt to regain a 13-12 lead. However, West Chester answered with a 4-0 run to go back in front 16-13. Out of an ESU timeout, the Golden Rams stretched their advantage to 18-14 and 20-17 but the Warriors scored six straight points to jump ahead 23-20. ESU wrapped up the set 25-21 for a 1-0 lead in the match.
- After ESU got out to a 2-0 lead, the Golden Rams answered back with an 8-4 run to go in front 8-6. Then with the score knotted at 9-9, West Chester produced a 6-1 spurt using four ESU miscues to stretch their advantage to 15-10. ESU settled back in after a timeout, scoring seven of the next eight points to regain a 17-16 lead. The Golden Rams were able to tie it at 19-19, but the Warriors got kills from Coulter and Hann to go up 21-19. ESU ultimately closed out the set 25-20 to push their edge to 2-0.
- The Warriors raced out to a 9-5 lead in the final set and after the Golden Rams got within two (9-7), ESU scored four consecutive points to go up 13-7. West Chester tallied the first two points out of a timeout, but ESU went on a 7-0 run to have a comfortable advantage at 20-9. ESU would go on to finish off the set 25-15 to complete the sweep of West Chester.
