Women’s Basketball Falls at West Chester

WEST CHESTER – Behind a trio of double figure scores, West Chester knocked off the East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team, 66-35, in a PSAC East game on Saturday afternoon inside Hollinger Field House.

The Warriors slipped to 4-9 on the season and 2-6 in the conference while the Golden Rams, who were picked as the PSAC East preseason favorite, improved to 10-5 overall and 5-4 in the league.

Notables
  • Junior Corrin Gill paced the Warriors with a team-high 12 points to go along with one rebound and one assist
  • In 18 minutes off the bench, senior Gwenn Sabato registered five points, five rebounds and a pair of assists, while sophomore Lily Sigra poured in five points in 10 minutes
  • Juniors Emily Chmiel and Izzy Vogel combined for seven points and 10 rebounds
  • The Golden Rams finished with three players in double figures as Emily McAteer had a game-high 17 points as well as seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Anna McTamney added 13 points, two rebounds and two steals while Leah Johnson did a little bit of everything with 10 points, six rebounds, six assists and a pair of steals.
  • Poor shooting hindered ESU as the Warriors went 10-for-40 (25.0%) overall and 3-for-15 (20.0%) beyond the arc, but an efficient 12-for-15 (80.0%) at the charity stripe
  • The Golden Rams shot 42.4 percent (25-for-59) from the floor, 33.3 percent (5-for-28) from three-point range and 84.6 percent (11-for-13) at the foul line
  • West Chester took advantage 22 ESU turnovers as the Golden Rams turned them into 19 points while also outscoring ESU in the paint, 34-14
  • The Golden Rams have now defeated the Warriors in five consecutive meetings dating back to 2022 and improved to 84-33 all-time against ESU
How It Happened
  • With the score deadlocked at 5-5 to open the game, the Golden Rams produced a 17-4 run over the final 7:45 of the first quarter to take a 22-9 lead over the Warriors.
     
  • West Chester carried momentum into the second quarter as the Golden Rams proceeded to outscore the Warriors by 14 points (19-5) to extend their lead to 41-14 at the break.
     
  • In a down shooting third quarter for both teams, West Chester come out on top with a six point scoring edge (14-8) to push the advantage to 55-22 with 10 minutes remaining.
     
  • Despite the game nearly being out of reach for ESU in the fourth quarter, the Warriors went on to outscore the Golden Rams by two points, 13-11, to make the final score 66-35 in favor of West Chester.
