SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Despite holding a two-goal lead at halftime, the No. 3 East Stroudsburg University field hockey team fell 3-2 to No. 1 Shippensburg at the Robb Sports Complex on Wednesday evening.
The Warriors (13-3, 5-2) built a 2-0 advantage over the undefeated Raiders (14-0, 7-0) by halftime, but Shippensburg responded with three unanswered goals, scoring at the end of the third and fourth quarters to complete the comeback.
Notables
- Allyson Forman and Kerry Kaufman scored just under five minutes apart in the second quarter to give ESU the 2-0 halftime lead. Alex Eagles and Kayla Minkon added assists on the goals.
- Forman now has eight goals on the season, while Kaufman has six and has scored three times in the last two games, including both goals in the Warriors' win over Frostburg State.
- Sydney Pope started in goal and kept Shippensburg off the scoreboard in the first half with three saves. Jet Vermeulen made a season-high seven saves in the second half but suffered just her second loss of the season.
- For the Raiders, Agus Garibaldi was pivotal, scoring both the game-tying and game-winning goals, and assisting on Yasmine de Meyer's goal, which sparked the comeback late in the third quarter.
- Shippensburg led the match shots (21-13), shots on goal (13-9), and penalty corner opportunities (19-8).
