BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's tennis team picked up five victories at the Fall Flighted Championship this past weekend at the Burt Reese Tennis Center.
The Warriors battled PSAC foes in Bloomsburg, California (Pa.), Edinboro, Millersville, Seton Hill, Shepherd and Shippensburg.
Singles Notables
- Louise Boyer-Vidal (No. 2), Gianina Speranza (No. 4) and Jazmine Parker (No. 7) led the way with fifth place finishes in singles action.
- After falling to three-seeded Jennifer McDonald (Bloomsburg) in her opening match at No. 2 Singles, Boyer-Vidal bounced back with wins over Ximena Bolanos Tellez (5-3, 4-2) of Shepherd and Edinboro's Luciana Ponce (4-1, win by retirement) to take fifth place. She evened her singles record to 5-5 with the two wins.
- Speranza bounced back after a loss in her first match to Millersville's Lucia Consigliere at No. 4 singles (6-3, 6-3), by taking down Shippensburg's Brinley Orris (5-4(5), 4-1) in the fifth-place match.
- Parker faced eventual champion Lilly Sierka in the first round, falling 6-0, 6-1. She bounced back with a hard-fought 4-1, 3-5, 11-9 triumph over Millersville's Hailey Guerrero.
- Ariel Kelsick (No. 1) and Claudia Ermina (No. 6) both earned sixth place in their respective brackets, picking up a victory in the process. Kelsick responded from a 6-0, 6-3 loss to Shepherd's Marketa Beladova with a 5-3, 5-4 (5), win over Maria Pereda of Seton Hill. Kelsick's day ended with a 4-0, 4-0 loss to Millersville's Hui Jen Soo in the fifth-place match.
- Ermina dropped her first match to Kaylee Kanuka (Seton Hill, 6-4, 6-3), but countered with a 4-2, 4-0 win over Shippensburg's Kendall Winters.
