Klijn’s Fourth-Quarter Goal Lifts No. 3 ESU Past Millersville for Third Straight Win

EAST STROUDSBURG – In the fourth quarter of a scoreless contest, Minke Klijn registered the lone goal with just over 11 minutes to play, lifting the No. 3 East Stroudsburg University field hockey team to a 1-0 shutout win over Millersville on Wednesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

The Warriors (10-2, 2-1 PSAC) secured their third consecutive win, while the Marauders (6-5, 2-2 PSAC) suffered their second conference loss.

Notables

  • Klijn's ninth goal of the season came in the 49th minute, assisted by Jady van Gils, who had been named the NFHCA National Player of the Week earlier in the day.

  • Klijn now has nine goals on the season, including a team-best four game-winning goals.

  • Van Gils extended her point streak to six consecutive games and has recorded at least one point in nine of 12 games this season.

  • Sydney Pope and Jet Vermeulen combined for the shutout, with Vermeulen (7-1) earning her seventh win of the season, making two saves. Millersville's Kerstin Koons posted four saves in the loss.

  • The Warriors led 11-3 in shots and 5-2 in shots on goal. ESU also held an 8-2 advantage in penalty corners.
