EAST STROUDSBURG – Following its first win against Shepherd since 2003, the East Stroudsburg University football team remains sixth in the NCAA Division II Super Region 1 rankings, the NCAA announced.
The Warriors (9-1) stay in NCAA Playoff position heading into their final regular-season game at Clarion. ESU aims to secure its sixth NCAA Playoff berth in program history and accomplish the feat in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2004-05.
The Warriors' lone blemish this season came against reigning NCAA semifinalist Kutztown by less than a single possession (27-21). The Golden Bears are currently undefeated.
ESU enters the matchup with Clarion boasting the top-scoring offense in the conference (35.4 points per game) and the second-best scoring defense (14.2 points allowed per game), both of which rank in the top 20 nationally.
With the victory over Shepherd, ESU achieved at least nine wins in a single season for the 10th time in program history. A win over the Golden Eagles would mark just the sixth season with double-digit victories for the Warriors.
ESU closes the regular season with a noon kickoff against Clarion at Memorial Stadium. The Warriors will find out their NCAA Tournament fate on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. during the NCAA Division II Selection Show on NCAA.com.
