EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team (18-7, 8-5) clinched a spot in the PSAC Tournament tonight by defeating Bloomsburg (8-18, 5-8) in four sets.
Notables:
Anna Coulter had eight kills, six digs, and six block assists.
Kelly Crites, who also finished with eight kills, tallied 11 digs and a solo block.
Allison Birtcil (Pictured Above) led with nine kills, four digs, and four block assists.
Taylor Haan recorded 30 assists, 12 digs, four kills, and an ace.
Leonor Chambel and
Hanna Garrison tied for the team high in digs with 13. Garrison also had seven kills, while Chambel tallied four assists.
Makaela McComas led the team in aces with three, including one that secured the win in the fourth set. She also had eight digs.
How It Happened:
S1 (25-14): ESU won the first set 25-14 after going on a 6-0 run to make it 15-8. Later, they went on a 5-0 run to make it 23-11 and won the set handily.
S2 (25-19): In the second set, Bloomsburg came out in front with a 3-0 lead, but the Warriors responded with a 6-0 run to take the lead. Both teams went back and forth, with the Huskies tying the set at 15-all. ESU ended the set on a 10-4 run to take a 2-0 set advantage.
S3 (17-25): With the Huskies down 4-1, they went on a 4-0 run to take the lead. ESU briefly regained the lead at 8-6, but Bloomsburg then scored the next nine points to go up 15-8. The Huskies went on to win the set by eight.
S4 (25-22): The final set was the most competitive. The Warriors held the lead for most of the set, but the Huskies battled back to tie it at 18-18 after being down 16-12. ESU went on a 4-0 run, but Bloomsburg responded with a 4-1 run to make it 23-22 in ESU's favor. After an attack error by the Huskies, McComas ended the match with an ace.
