EAST STROUDSBURG – Following a historic regular season in which the East Stroudsburg University football team recorded at least 10 wins for the sixth time in program history, the NCAA announced Sunday evening that ESU will head to three-seed California (Pa.) on Saturday, Nov. 23, for a 1 p.m. kickoff in the NCAA Playoff First Round.
The Warriors (10-1) have now earned back-to-back NCAA Playoff appearances for just the second time in program history and the first since current head coach and former Harlon Hill Trophy-winning quarterback Jimmy Terwilliger led ESU to the playoffs in 2004 and 2005.
ESU is ranked 20th nationally in both scoring offense and defense, with its only loss of the season coming to NCAA Super Region 1 top-seed Kutztown in a 27-21 defeat on Sept. 28. Since that loss, the Warriors have won seven straight games, outscoring their opponents 266-109 to close the regular season.
With their 22-19 win over Clarion, the Warriors reached double-digit victories for the sixth time in program history and the first time since 2005. This season marks the first time ESU has reached at least 10 wins without a victory in the PSAC Championship or NCAA Playoffs.
The Warriors were one of 28 teams selected during the NCAA Selection Show. With a win against the Vulcans, ESU would advance to play the winner of the two-seed Charleston vs. Ashland matchup.
