Warriors Draw with Shippensburg on Senior Day

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team held a 2-0 lead late on Senior Day, but a pair of Shippensburg goals in the final minutes forced a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The Warriors (6-3-7, 4-3-7 PSAC East) now shift focus to their upcoming match against Kutztown on Wednesday evening. The Raiders (5-7-4, 5-5-4 PSAC East) remain tied with ESU for sixth place in the PSAC East standings.

With two games remaining, the Warriors aim to secure six points with wins against Kutztown and Mansfield. ESU currently trails Bloomsburg by five points for the fourth and final PSAC East spot in the PSAC Tournament. The Warriors will need help from West Chester, Lock Haven, and Shippensburg to win their games against Millersville and Bloomsburg to clinch a postseason berth.

Notables

  • Natalie Schooley opened the scoring in the 26th minute, finding the net after a setup from fellow senior Emily Wineburg. Schooley, coming off a hat trick against Lock Haven, has scored five goals over her past three games. She is now tied for ninth all-time in career goals at ESU, with 22, matching Haley Skove and Monica Wood.
  • Millie Smith extended ESU's lead to 2-0 in the 53rd minute with her second goal of the season.
  • Shippensburg responded late, with goals from Kaitlyn DiCandilo and Lannah Werynski in the 84th and 85th minutes to tie the game.
  • The Warriors led 19-10 in total shots and 8-7 in shots on goal. Shippensburg held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Emmy Clarkson made six saves for ESU, while Shippensburg's Kirstin Brown recorded five saves.
