Warriors Record First Win Since 2019 With Split at Cedar Crest and DeSales

ALLENTOWN & CENTER VALLEY – It was a historic day for the East Stroudsburg University women's tennis team as the Warriors earned their first win in 1,622 days with a 9-0 triumph over Cedar Crest.

It was a quick turnaround for the Warriors as ESU dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision to DeSales in its second match of an action packed Sunday.

The Warriors moved to 1-5 overall with the split, the Falcons dropped to 0-6 and the Bulldogs improved to 4-1.

Today's victory marked the first for ESU since October 14, 2015, when the Warriors defeated Holy Family, 5-4, on the road.

Freshman Carley Furlow and sophomore Jazmine Parker both finished the day with perfect 4-0 records as the duo won both No. 3 doubles matches and their respective singles bouts. Furlow and Parker defeated Cedar Crest's Grace Nieman and Grace Huff, 8-5, before cruising to an 8-2 win over DeSales' Emily Prokopovich and Vivian Dang.

At No. 5 and No. 6 singles, Furlow (6-2, 6-4 | 6-6, 6-4) and Parker (6-2, 6-4 | 7-5, 6-4) picked up straight set wins over their respective opponents.

Senior Samantha Passmore and freshman Katrina Ricci split No. 1 doubles matchups as the duo took down Cedar Crest's Lily Spagnola and Katherine Franzone, 8-2. Additionally, Passmore (No. 1) and Ricci (No. 4) claimed their first-ever victories at No. 1 and No. 4 singles.

Alessia Bianchini and Sherin Paul went 1-1 at No. 2 doubles as the graduate students breezed to an 8-1 triumph over Cedar Crest's Corinne O'Connor and Megan Fiedler. Paul collected her second career singles (No. 3) victory against the Falcons' Megan Fiedler (6-1, 6-0), while Bianchini improved to 3-2 this season at No. 2 singles. The Caracas, Venezuela native knocked off Cedar Crest's Katherine Franzone (6-3, 6-1), before rallying to defeat DeSales' Hope Hoppe (4-6, 0-6, 7-6).
