4/28/2024 8:24:00 PM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs have announced that East Stroudsburg University defensive end Deshawn McCarthy has been invited to attend the Chief's rookie minicamp from Saturday, May 4 through Monday, May 6th.

McCarthy, a three-time All-PSAC East First Team selection and 2021 AFCA All-America First Team selection, is among the most productive pass rushers in program history.

The Philadelphia native closed his storied ESU career ranked third all-time in program history with 31 sacks, trailing record holders Des Hussey (1988-91) and Bill Camp (1981-84) by just two takedowns. In 43 career games, the athletic training major compiled 138 tackles, 51 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 14 passes defended.

After posting six sacks and two forced fumbles in his true freshman season in 2019, McCarthy bursted on the scene with registered 13 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss in his AFCA All-America sophomore season. He opened the season after the COVID-19 canceled 2020 season with four sacks against Pace, which ranks third-most in a single game.

Often facing double teams, McCarthy totaled 12 sacks over his final two seasons and disrupted quarterbacks with nine pass breakups over his final 22 contests.

In addition to being honored by the PSAC and AFCA, McCarthy was selected to the Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List, D2.Football.com Elite 100, D2CCA Super Region 1 Second Team, Shrine Bowl 1000 and Lindy's Sports Magazine Preseason All-Division II First Team.

McCarthy isn't the first to attend the Kansas City Chief's minicamp, with former Warrior quarterback great Matt Soltes attending KC's rookie minicamp in 2016. Additionally, Ray Yakavonis - ESU's first-ever NFL Draft pick - closed his NFL career with the Chiefs in 1983, appearing in a pair of contests.

Joining McCarthy as Kansas City rookie minicamp invitees include Spencer Sanders (QB, Ole Miss), Trey Potts (RB, Penn State), Jaaron Hayek (WR, Villanova), Bryce Gallagher (LB, Northwestern), Bryce Houston (LB, Houston and Sam Lockett (S, Washington State).
