NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Following its fourth NCAA Division II Atlantic Region title and NCAA Semifinal appearance over the past three seasons, the IWLCA announced on Tuesday that the East Stroudsburg University lacrosse team was selected seventh in the final ILWomen/IWLCA Coaches Poll of the season.
The Warriors completed the 2024 campaign with a 14-7 record. The Warriors have now been nationally ranked in the final poll in 10 seasons, including every season under head coach Xeni Bararkos-Yoder. ESU's seventh finish is the fourth best in program history, trailing only 2022 (2nd), 2021 (4th) and 2018 (5th).
As a team, ESU led the nation in save percentage (.587) and ranked top-20 in ground balls per game (9th) and scoring defense (20th).
The Warriors were led by IWLCA All-America First Team selections
Emily Mitarotonda and
Abby Simonetti. Mitarotonda set single-season ESU and PSAC records in goals and points, ranking first in free-position goals per game, third in goals, third in goals per game, third in points, fourth in points per game, sixth in caused turnovers per game, 20th in ground balls per game and 29th in draw controls per game. She registered the most goals in NCAA Division II history by a player at one program and finished second overall, while also holding career records in goals at points at ESU and the PSAC.
Simonetti became the first Warrior goalkeeper to earn IWLCA All-America First Team honors, leading all of NCAA Division II in saves and save percentage, while ranking third in saves per game and 13th in goals-against average. The junior from Millington, Md. posted 238 saves, the second-most in a single-season by a Warrior.
Both Mitarotonda and Simonetti were named to the 2024 NCAA DII Women's Lacrosse Championship All-Tournament Team.
The ILWomen/IWLCA Division II Poll was voted jointly by coaches throughout the country and members of the media
