NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – After leading NCAA Division II in saves and save percentage throughout the 2024 season, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced on Wednesday that East Stroudsburg University junior Abby Simonetti was named the IWLCA Division II Goalkeeper of the Year.

Simonetti was a brick wall for the Warriors in her first season at ESU. The UMBC transfer tallied a 10-7 record in the cage and was vital to ESU's NCAA DII Atlantic Region Championship and NCAA Semifinal appearance campaign.

Simonetti became the first Warrior goalkeeper to earn IWLCA All-America First Team honors, leading all of NCAA Division II in saves and save percentage, while ranking third in saves per game and 13th in goals-against average. The junior from Millington, Md. posted 238 saves, the second-most in a single-season by a Warrior.

Along with NCAA Division II, she led all NCAA levels of women's lacrosse in total saves (238) and save percentage (.598).

She becomes the first Warrior to earn a major national honor by the coaches' association in program history.

With ESU needing a victory to help sure its hopes at an NCAA Tournament berth, Simonetti stood on her head with 27 saves against Kutztown in a close 10-9 victory over the Golden Bears.

Along with being recognized as the IWLCA Goalkeeper of the Year and on the IWLCA All-America First Team, Simonetti garnered IWLCA All-Region First Team and All-PSAC East Second Team honors this season. She was also recognized on the NCAA DII Championship All-Tournament Team and earned PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week three times and national defensive player of the week on one occasion.
