WALTHAM, Mass. – Trailing 1-0, the No. 2 East Stroudsburg University field hockey team scored a pair of goals in the final five minutes to defeat Bentley, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors improved to 3-1, while the Falcons fell to 0-3 with the loss.
ESU head coach Sandy Miller recorded her 500th career victory with the road win. Miller, who is in her 40th season, joins elite company as just the third NCAA Division II head coach and the 13th in NCAA history to reach the milestone.
Notables
- Allyson Forman fired in the equalizer on a penalty stroke with just 4:48 remaining. The Commack, N.Y., native now has three goals this season and has registered at least one point in all four contests.
- With less than three minutes to play, Minke Klijn scored the game-winner to secure the victory over the Falcons.
- ESU held a commanding edge in shots (20-1), shots on goal (12-1), and penalty corners (13-1).
- Goalkeeper Jet Vermeulen earned the win, shutting out Bentley in the second half. Sydney Pope started in goal, allowing the lone first-half score.
- Bentley's Bracie Moore broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 21st minute. Mia Trottie posted nine saves in the loss.
Miller Time
- Miller, the active career leader in wins in NCAA Division II field hockey, trails only Pat Rudy (634) and Jan Hutchison (591) on the NCAA Division II wins list.
- She now holds a career record of 500-288-11. Her .633 winning percentage ranks eighth all-time in NCAA Division II history.
- She has guided ESU to two national championships (2015, 2022), four PSAC titles, and 14 NCAA Tournaments.
