IRVING, Texas – The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced that East Stroudsburg University football senior wide receiver John Siggins has been named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy®.
Celebrating its 35th year, the Campbell Trophy® recognizes an individual as the best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance, and leadership.
This season, the Allentown native has recorded a team-high nine receptions and 122 receiving yards. He scored his first touchdown of the 2024 campaign in the season opener against Edinboro. Siggins is one of 18 nominees from NCAA Division II and 203 across all divisions. The Parkland graduate joins California (Pa.)'s Jaheim Bassham and Slippery Rock's Brayden Long as the only three semifinalists from the PSAC.
Siggins, a nursing major with a 3.51 GPA, is involved in several charitable organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Be The Match, Salvation Army, East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church soup kitchen, Dr. Seuss Read Across America, 570 Youth Sports, Youth Sports and Recreation for Life Time Fitness, and he is a member of ESU's Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).
He becomes the 10th Warrior to be named a Campbell Trophy® semifinalist, joining Daryn Blackwell (2023), Levi Murphy (2019), Michael Fleming (2018), Devon Ackerman (2017), Jon Schnaars (2015), Bryan Thomson (2014), Robert Bleiler (2013), Matt Freed (2010), and Sam Shuman (2009).
"These 203 semifinalists reflect not only exceptional academic and athletic talent but also the deep-rooted leadership that shows a commitment to excellence in all aspects of their lives, which is learned on the gridiron," said NFF Chairman Archie Manning. Manning's sons Peyton (Campbell Trophy® winner) and Eli were named NFF National Scholar-Athletes in 1997 and 2003, respectively. "The Campbell Trophy® continues to represent the pinnacle of what it means to be a scholar-athlete, and this year's candidates exemplify how football builds future leaders who will undoubtedly shape tomorrow's world."
The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Oct. 23. Each finalist will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2024 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Fidelity Investments. The finalists will travel to the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas for the 66th NFF Annual Awards Dinner, presented by Las Vegas, on Dec. 10, where their accomplishments will be celebrated in front of one of the most powerful audiences in sports.
