SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss to Shepherd in a PSAC East match on Saturday, October 11, at the Shepherd Soccer Complex. Shepherd secured the victory by scoring three goals in the first half, followed by a final tally in the second. The loss followed a series of road victories for ESU, including two consecutive 1-0 shutout wins in their prior successful outings.
Notables
The Warriors were held to three total shots throughout the 90 minutes of play, with only one shot landing on goal. Shepherd's offense registered 13 shots, five of which were on goal. Goalkeeper Emmy Clarkson played the duration of the match for ESU, recording one save in the loss.
Offensively, ESU's lone shot on goal came late in the second half at 86:50 from
Jessica Price, but it was saved by Shepherd goalkeeper Hannah Wilt. Other shots were recorded by
Sydnie Wright and
Sydney Hornberger.
How it Happened
The game remained scoreless for the first 21 minutes, with Emmy Clarkson saving an early attempt by Katelyn Economopoulos at 7:16.
Shepherd broke the deadlock at 21:02 when Merritt Delk scored the opening goal, assisted by Erika Moore. The Rams quickly extended their lead less than six minutes later when Annabelle Wunderlich netted an unassisted goal at 27:01. Shepherd's scoring surge continued at 28:23 when Josie Beezel found the back of the net, assisted by Merritt Delk, putting the Warriors down 3-0.
The score remained 3-0 entering the half.
In the second period, ESU recorded all three of their shots. ESU attempted one corner kick at 61:28.
Shepherd finalized the 4-0 score at 67:41 when Lydia Gable scored, assisted by Reagan Ackermann.
