Klijn and Pope Sweep Weekly Conference Awards for Field Hockey

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — Following a dominant win over St. Thomas Acquinas, a shutout of Pace, and an upset of the No. 1 ranked Shippensburg Raiders, Minke Klijn and Sydney Pope were named the PSAC Athlete and Defensive Athletes of the Week. It is the first time this season a Warrior has earned a weekly conference award.

Klijn put together a nine-point week, scoring three goals and adding in three assists. The junior midfielder started off with a pair of four-point outings, recording a goal and two assists in the 9-1 win over the Spartans and potting another two goals in the 8-0 victory over the Setters. Klijn then assisted on the second goal for the Warriors in their 3-2 upset of Shippensburg. She now leads the conference in assists (8) and ranks fifth in in points (28) and game-winning goals (4).

Pope played a half in each game during the week, with her best work coming in the first half against Shippensburg. The junior started the game for the Warriors, making two saves and allowing ESU to jump out to a two-goal lead while in net. Pope also recorded a save in her 30 minutes against St. Thomas Acquinas and was not tested against Pace. She holds a .99 goals against average and .758 save percetange on the season, ranking fourth and sixth in the PSAC, respectively. 

Klijn, Pope, and the No. 4 ranked Warriors are back in action at 6 p.m. tonight to take on the No. 6 Bloomsburg Huskies on the road.
