Men's Soccer Shut Out on the Road Against Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The East Stroudsburg men's soccer team were unable to find the back of the net on the road against the PSAC East-leading Millersville Marauders Saturday afternoon, falling 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Warriors were victims of an unlucky bounce early on that led to the lone goal of the match. The Marauders were awarded a free kick just outside the right corner of the box that deflected off the wall East Stroudsburg set up. Matias Schmidt's kick bounced to the right where Haven Thomas was in position to capitalize off the rebound, putting it past Phil Sykes in the bottom right corner 15 minutes into the game.
  • East Stroudsburg had a run towards the end of the first half, as Ryan Kiernan took his defender one-on-one inside the left half of the box. With a couple of his teammates crashing down on the net, he attempted to center the ball. His defender recovered to partially block the pass, and Gavin Massimi caught it in midair to end the possession.
  • Kiernan had the Warriors' best look of the day when he recorded the only shot on goal for East Stroudsburg in the seventh minute of the second half. In transition, Owen Rennie carried the ball over midfield and sent a through ball past Millersville's back line to catch Kiernan in stride. Running out of an angle, Kiernan fired off a low-driven shot that Massimi was able to fall on.
  • The Warriors made a strong late push with a quality look at a game-tying goal in the final four minutes but narrowly missed the target. With 3:32 left, East Stroudsburg had possession in the box and sent an aerial crossing pass to the net front, but Rennie's header missed off the right post.
GAME NOTES
  • Aside from Millersville's edge in shots (10-8) and shots on goal (3-1), the team's were even in corner kicks with eight.
  • Three different Warriors finished the game with two shot attempts, as Rennie, Jace Seara, and Darryl Longdon led the team in that category.
  • Sykes has now started in consecutive games and appeared in the Warriors last three games.
UP NEXT
The Warriors are now 6-5-2 overall and sit at 2-2-1 in-conference, with a match against West Chester next up on the schedule. East Stroudsburg will take on the Golden Rams at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 22 in West Chester, Pa.
