Women's Volleyball Overcomes Lock Haven in Four Sets

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg women's volleyball team fought back after dropping the opening set to defeat Lock Haven, 3-1, Friday night inside Koehler Fieldhouse. Set scores were 22-25, 25-19, 25-14, and 25-18. 

With this win, the Warriors extended their win streak to six matches and improved to 18-5 overall and 8-1 in the conference. The Bald Eagles fell to 8-15 overall and 4-5 in the PSAC, snapping their three game win streak. 

Notables 

Anna Coulter notched 20 kills for her second 20-kill match this season and recorded a season-high .643 hitting percentage. Coulter totaled four blocks, 23.5 points, and a service ace.  

Kelly Crites added 10 kills, 11 points, and two blocks while Allison Birtcil contributed seven kills and one block. Krya Bishop had 37 assists, to mark her third highest assist count this season. Bishop also had three kills, two service aces, and three blocks. 

How it happened 

Set 1: The teams traded points early, staying within two until ESU scored three straight to lead 10-8. The set went on with the teams having no more than a two point lead over one another. A kill from Crites tied the set at 20 each before the Bald Eagles pulled away with a four point run to gain the largest lead, 24-21. A block from Birtcil and Domani Collazo held off the Bald Eagles, but a kill gave the Bald Eagles the first set.  

Set 2: ESU opened with the first point before Lock Haven responded with two. The Warriors surged with a six point run that included three service aces to jump ahead, 7-2. The Bald Eagles got back within two while ESU maintained the lead. Another five point run from ESU extended their lead to 22-16, which included two kills and a service ace. Kills from Birtcil and Bishop sealed the set, 25-19, tying the match at one apiece.

Set 3: Martinez began the third set with a kill to put the Warriors on the board first. Lock Haven got back on top at 7-6 with a kill, however ESU responded with a five point run and a 10-1 run to go up by 11 points, 21-10. The Bald Eagles had four kills to finish the set, but three kills and an attack error handed the third set to ESU. 

Set 4: In the fourth set, Martinez scored the first point for the Warriors off a kill. A Coulter kill and a block from her and Bishop made it 3-2. Two more Coulter kills and two Lock Haven attack errors put ESU ahead by four, 7-3. The teams traded points until Marta Leeland notched two consecutive service aces to make it 14-9. Kills from Martinez, Coulter, Crites, and Birtcil pushed the Warriors to the set point, 24-19. A Lock Haven service error gave ESU the match win in four sets, 25-19.
