BOWIE, Md. -- The East Stroudsburg women's basketball team closed out the opening weekend with a win over Shaw, 67-61 on Sunday afternoon.

Brie Droege led the team with 20 points, shot 10-17 from the field, had two steals and two rebounds. Brooke Droege was right behind with 18 points, made eight field goals including two three pointers, grabbed seven boards, posted a block, and led the floor with six steals. Lacie Kringe contributed 14 points, five rebounds, and four steals, and Emma Thornton led the team with eight rebounds.
How it happened
The Warriors began the first quarter with 10 unanswered points that included five from Brooke before Shaw made their first basket at 3:57. Consecutive baskets from the Droege's put ESU ahead by 12 points, 14-2. Avery White capped off the first quarter with a layup to put the Warriors up by 16 points, 20-4.
ESU opened the second quarter with a quick basket by Brie. Late in the third quarter, Shaw went on a 12 point run to pull within two, 26-24. Kringe responded with consecutive baskets and made two free throws to round out the scoring for the Warriors in the first half.
In the third quarter, ESU capitalized on back to back steals from Kringe to push their lead to nine points. The Warriors surged near the end of the third quarter with five consecutive baskets to extend their lead to 19 points. Highlighting that run was consecutive baskets from both Brie and Jess Devine.
Shaw opened the fourth with an eight point run before Brie made a layup at 7:12, 58-45. The Bears used an 11-2 run to pull within six, however a dunk from Kringe sealed the win for the Warriors, 67-61.
