BOWIE, Md. -- The East Stroudsburg women's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season with a 57-48 victory over Bowie State Saturday evening.

Brooke Droege led ESU with 17 points and eight rebounds, adding two blocks and two steals. Brie Droege followed with 12 points, three rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Lacie Kringe chipped in seven points and seven boards while leading the team with five assists. Jessica Polin knocked down a pair of three-pointers and collected a rebound.
How it happened
Bowie State got on the board first with a jumper, right before Brooke made a layup at 8:23. Brie hit a jumper with 7:20 on the clock, followed by a Kringe jumper at 5:41 to tie the score at six. The teams hit back to back two pointers with Caitlin Marten scoring for ESU. Brie made both free throws before Jessica Polin hit a three pointer at 1:47 to put ESU up by five, 13-8.
The Bulldogs began the second quarter with a six point run before a three pointer by Brooke tied up the score at 16. Bowie State got ahead with a layup just before Polin scored her second three pointer at 5:33. Another Bulldogs layup trimmed the margin before ESU closed the half on a 7-0 run, taking a 26-20 lead into the break.
Early in the third, the teams traded points until Brooke made two baskets that included a steal and a fastbreak to put the Warriors ahead by eight points, 34-26. Three free throws and Jess Devine's three pointer extended ESU's lead to 40-26. The Bulldogs scored four points to close out the third, 40-30.
Bowie State scored nine straight to pull within one, 40-39. After both teams traded free throws, a Bowie State layup tied the score at 43. Kringe and Marten responded with consecutive layups, restoring a four point ESU advantage 47-43. The Warriors surged ahead with eight points to go up 55-45. Two late free throws from Brooke sealed the 57-48 victory and ESU's first win of the season.
