Chmiel Breaks 30-Year-Old Single Season Scoring Record in Win Over Kutztown

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team delivered a statement win Wednesday, defeating Kutztown 77-64 at Koehler Fieldhouse.
 
The Warriors (13-13, 10-10 PSAC) snapped the Golden Bears' (18-11, 13-7 PSAC) 12-game winning streak, bolstering their positioning in the PSAC East standings. ESU is currently tied with Millersville for the No. 5 seed with one game remaining and holds the tiebreaker.
 
Notables
Emily Chmiel led the Warriors with an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double. On her 11th point of the game, Chmiel broke the 30-year-old single-season program record for most points in a season, surpassing Stacy Perryman's previous mark of 571 points.

Brie Droege and Jessica Polin each posted 14 points.

Corrin Gill stuffed the stat sheet, recording 13 points, three 3-pointers and eight assists.

Katie Geisler provided a spark off the bench, adding seven points on 50% shooting.

ESU's offense clicked on all cylinders in the fourth quarter, making 10 field goals while holding Kutztown to 21 points.

The Warriors controlled the glass, out-rebounding Kutztown 14-6 in the final quarter.
 
How It Happened
The Warriors started strong, building an early lead, but Kutztown kept the game close through the first quarter. The Golden Bears made a push late in the second quarter but still trailed 35-28 at halftime.
 
Kutztown controlled the third quarter, taking a 40-39 lead with just under four minutes left in the period. The Golden Bears held an 11-5 advantage on the defensive glass in the quarter.
 
ESU opened the fourth quarter on a 9-2 run, leading 49-42 following a much-needed 3-pointer from Gill. The Warriors maintained control down the stretch, finding their rhythm offensively and securing a 77-64 victory.
 
Up Next
The Warriors will close out their regular-season home slate against Lock Haven on March 1, with tip off set for 1 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse. A win Saturday could improve ESU's seeding for the upcoming PSAC Tournament.
