No. 9 Softball Completes Road Trip at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 9 ranked East Stroudsburg University softball team was swept by Shippensburg University on Sunday afternoon in PSAC East play, falling 9-0 in five innings in game one and then were clipped by a score of 5-3 in game two.

Game One – Shippensburg 9, No. 9 East Stroudsburg 0 (Five Innings)
The Raiders opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer to left field from sophomore Brie Wilmot (Lansdale, Pa.) to put Shippensburg up 2-0.

After a scoreless second frame, the home team added a single tally when senior Aryanna Briddell (Millsboro, Del.) crossed home on a wild pitch to make the score 3-0.

The Raiders tacked on four in the fourth to extend the margin to 7-0. Sophomore Sarah Sabocsik (Hatfield, Pa.) connected on a base hit to left field, which plated freshman Gianna Cimino (Lansdale, Pa.). Wilmot followed with a two-RBI single up the middle and then junior Rilee Ehrlacher (Northampton, Pa.) drove in Sabocsik with a base knock to left field.

Shippensburg recorded two more runs in the fifth on a two-run homer by freshman Dani Hayward (Hamburg, Pa.) to make the score 9-0 to end the contest in five innings.
Hayward picked up the win in the circle, only allowing three hits while striking out two over five innings.

Sophomore Sarah Davenport suffered her first loss of the season, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on five hits while collecting four strikeouts and allowing four walks.
Wilmot paced the Raiders at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored.

Senior Abigail Weirich led the Warriors with two hits while classmate Shannon Edelman closed out the column with one.

Game Two – Shippensburg 5, No. 9 East Stroudsburg 3
Following a scoreless first inning, East Stroudsburg got on the scoreboard with a single run in the second. Junior Maddy Pritchard recorded a single to left field, plating Weirich for the 1-0 lead.

The Warriors added another run in the third as Weirich drove in senior Tatum Kresley with a double to left field to bring the score to 2-0.

Shippensburg tallied four runs with one swing of the bat on a grand slam by Wilmot to grab the 4-2 advantage.

East Stroudsburg got a run back in the fourth on an infield single from senior senior Taylor Lipkins. Sophomore Kylie Ingram scored on the play to cut the deficit to one, 4-3.

The Raiders plated one more run in the home half of the fourth on a base hit by Sabocsik to right field, bringing home sophomore Emily Lafferty (Marlton, N.J.).

Senior Alicia Ball (Woodstock, Va.) earned the win in the circle, striking out 10 in the complete game victory.

Senior Abbie Landrum was credited with the loss, giving up four runs on six hits while striking out one and walking two.

Junior Caitlyn Martell (Morrisville, Pa.) and Sabocsik registered two hits apiece for Shippensburg.

Lipkins and Weirich each collected two hits for the Warriors.

East Stroudsburg (33-8-1 overall, 17-4-1 PSAC East) will stay on the road for a league doubleheader at Lock Haven University on Tuesday, April 15 starting at 2:00 p.m. Shippensburg (22-14, 11-9 PSAC East) remains home for a twinbill against Millersville University on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
