PSAC TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: No. 2 Women's Lacrosse vs No. 3 Millersville

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - After a strong regular season, the East Stroudsburg University women's lacrosse team is the No. 2 seed in the PSAC East and will host a home playoff game Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Whitenight Field against Millersville.

Game Notes

The Series: The Warriors won the regular-season series, defeating the Marauders twice. In the first matchup, played at Millersville, ESU fell behind 5-1 in the first period before going on a 12-6 run, including five straight goals in the second and third periods, to earn a 13-11 win on March 22. In the second matchup at Whitenight Field, ESU dominated, scoring 12 straight goals to capture an 18-3 victory and complete the regular-season sweep on April 19.

Scouting ESU: The No. 2 offense in the PSAC is led by freshman sensation Sadie Kauffman, who became the first ESU freshman to record 100 points. She currently has 105 points on 80 goals and 25 assists and is the only freshman across all NCAA divisions with 100 points. Kauffman also leads the Warriors in draw controls with 89, is tied for second in groundballs, and ranks fourth in caused turnovers with 18.

Another impactful newcomer is sophomore Ariana Tucci, who has tallied 64 points on 46 goals and 18 assists in her first season with the team.

Junior Lauren Hallman ranks third in scoring with 49 points, including 36 goals and 13 assists. She is tied for second on the team with 27 groundballs.

Leading Division II in save percentage and topping the PSAC in saves is goalkeeper Abby Simonetti, who continues to show why she was named the IWLCA Division II Goalkeeper of the Year last season.

Since 2016, head coach Xeni Barakos-Yoder has guided ESU to two PSAC Championships, four NCAA Atlantic Region titles, seven NCAA Tournament appearances, and an NCAA runner-up finish.

Scouting Millersville:  The Marauders’ top goal scorer is senior Ashlyn Simonetti with 51 goals this season which ranks seventh in the PSAC and has tallied 67 points in 17 games.

Leading the team in points is Rachel Keeney with 68 on the year. She ranks second in caused turnovers with 26 and third in draw controls with 40.

The Marauders are led by Mike Faith, who is in his first season at Millersville after coaching Division III powerhouse Franklin & Marshall to 11 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

A Look Ahead: The winner of this game advances to the semifinal round against Slippery Rock at West Chester, on Saturday May 2 starting at 4 p.m.
