No. 9 East Stroudsburg Sweeps Mansfield, Weirich Sets Stolen Bases Record

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The No. 9 East Stroudsburg University softball team swept Mansfield, winning 8-0 in five innings and 5-1 on Thursday.
 
The Warriors (29-5, 13-1) extended their winning streak to eight games and widened their lead in the PSAC East. The Mountaineers (6-18, 4-12) will look to rebound against Lock Haven in their next matchup.
 
Pitching Notables
Sarah Davenport (19-0) pitched five shutout innings, striking out nine.
 
Faith Troyer and Abbie Landrum (5-0) combined for seven innings, allowing one run and striking out five.
 
Hitting Notables
Abigail Weirich recorded five RBIs on four hits and stole five bases across both games, becoming the all-time leader in career stolen bases for the Warriors with 111 stolen bases, passing former teammate Reilly Vicendese's record of 107 stolen bases set last season.
 
Taylor Lipkins tallied four hits, two RBIs, and two stolen bases.
 
Tulana Mingin finished with three hits, two RBIs, and a stolen base.
 
Game 1: How It Happened
The Warriors struck early, scoring four runs in the first inning. Lipkins led off with a base hit and scored the first run, while Weirich and Delaney Ridgell each contributed RBIs, with Weirich driving in a run on a single.
 
ESU added three more runs in the fourth with RBIs from Lipkins and Weirich to push the lead to 7-0. Weirich later stole third and scored on an errant throw, leading to the win by run rule.
 
Davenport dominated in the circle, holding Mansfield scoreless while striking out nine.
 
Game 2: How It Happened
Mingin put ESU on the board in the second inning with an RBI single to drive in Tatum Kresley. Mansfield tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth with an RBI single, but Weirich quickly responded with an RBI single to score Kresley.
 
The Warriors extended their lead in the sixth, plating three more runs. Mingin and Weirich each drove in runs before Weirich stole third and scored on a throwing error, mirroring Game 1.
