EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The No. 3 East Stroudsburg University field hockey team ran past Adelphi University, defeating the Panthers 10-2. After being tied 1-1 at the end of the first quarter, the Warriors tallied nine more goals to reach 10 goals for the third straight season.
The Warriors improve to 5-0 on the season while the Panthers fall to 1-2. ESU remains undefeated against Adelphi, now 9-0 all-time.
How it Happened
1st Half
Freshman
Lisa Pasman got the Warriors on the board first, scoring with 3:10 to play in the first quarter after receiving a pass from freshman
Piper Patrick. The squads would head into the second quarter tied after at 1-1 after Adelphi junior Lana Mignon de Wet scored off a turnover with 1:25 remaining.
Four different Warriors found the back of the goal in the second quarter with junior
Minke Klijne deflecting in a shot from senior
Emma Friend two minutes into the second, taking back the lead, 2-1.
Sophomore
Sydney Frantz recorded her first collegiate goal in the 23rd minute, blasting a shot into the cage off a leading pass from senior
Elaiana Rivera-Lagalla to extend ESU's lead to 3-1.
The Panthers cut the deficit back to one goal, 3-2 when Mignon de Wet tallied her second goal of the afternoon, with an assist from freshman Jena Geels. Within the next three minutes, ESU would tack on two more goals. Senior
Kerry Kaufman scored on a penalty corner off an insert pass from Friend and sophomore
Maddie Moline blasted in a shot to make the score 5-2 at halftime.
2nd Half
Just over thirty seconds into the third quarter, Friend scored her first goal of the game off an assist from Klijn. Kaufman's second goal of the afternoon was three minutes into the quarter, assisted by Friend to push the lead to 7-2.
Friend tallied her second goal of the game, assisted again by Klijn to push the lead to 8-2. Sophomore
Megan Rafter joined the goal-scoring party with one of her own, assisted by sophomore
Alyvia Yatsko and rounded out scoring in the third quarter, leading 9-2.
Klijne closed out the game with the 10th and final goal off a penalty corner with Moline and senior
Kendall Eggleston credited with assists.
Notable
Friend recorded a team-high seven points with two goals and three assists while Klijne ended with two goals and two assists and Kaufman with a couple of goals.
Moline contributed a goal and an assist while Rafter, Pasman and Frantz all scored goals. Rivera-Lagalla, Eggleston, Piper and Yatsko were credited with assists.
Junior
Sydney Pope started the game in goal for the Warriors and played the first half of action, recording a save in three shots faced and improved to 4-0 on the season. Junior
Jet Vermeulen played the final 30 minutes of the contest and recorded a save.
ESU outshot Adelphi 22-10 with 14 shots on goal to the Panthers' four. Penalty corners favored the Warriors as well, earning 11 to Adelphi's five.
