EDINBORO, Pa. - The East Stroudsburg University women's cross country team began their 2025 campaign with a 4
th place finish at The Doug Watts Open on Saturday at Penn West University Edinboro.
The Warriors opened in a strong fashion with their five scorers in the top 45 places of the race earning a total of 115 points. Finishing ahead of the Warriors was conference favorite Slippery Rock, along with Edinboro and Bloomsburg. A total of 11 teams and 113 individuals completed the 5-kilometer race.
Leading the Warriors was veteran,
Payton Falkenstein finishing in 11
th place with a time of 19:07.10 followed closely by freshman Sarah Williams coming in 12
th at 19:09.30.
Finishing third for the Warriors was sophomore,
Mia Sisilli in 27
th place with a 19:45.90. Rounding out the scoring for ESU were
Kiera Wimbush in 41
st with a time of 20:23.00, closely followed by
Marissa McDougall in 44
th with a time of 20:29.20.
Riley Trentowski crossed the finish line in 50
th place with a time of 20:48.80 and
Carla Bautista in 55
th with a time of 20:52.40.
This opening race was a great tune-up for East Stroudsburg as they had the chance to compete against seven other Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference teams and preview the course that will host the PSAC Championships later this Fall.
The Warriors are back in action Saturday, September 7
th at the Kutztown DII/DIII Challenge in Kutztown, Pa.
