Women's Basketball Drops Double-Digit Decision at California (Pa.)

CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg women's basketball team opened its portion of the 2026 season on the road at California (Pa.), dropping a 20-point decision to the Vulcans.  

The Warriors fell to 7-4 overall while the Vulcans improved to 8-7 on the season and 4-1 in the conference. 

Notables 

Brooke Droege led the Warriors with 12 points while Brie Droege and Caitlin Marten scored 10 each. Brooke also led the team with four steals, followed by Jess Devine with three. Marten grabbed nine rebounds, while Lacie Kringe followed with eight, including five offensive rebounds. Lilly Riggi made two three-pointers and a free throw, contributing seven points and two rebounds. 

How it Happened 

The Vulcans opened the game on an 8-0 run before the Warriors scored their first basket at the 6:03 mark with a jumper from Brooke. Kringe followed with ESU's second basket at 3:49, assisted by Skylar Soltis. Emma Thornton made both free throws before the Vulcans hit a three-pointer to extend ESU's deficit back to 10-points, 17-7. The teams traded baskets to close the first quarter, with Brie scoring for the Warriors. 

Devine opened the second quarter scoring for ESU at 8:48, and the Warriors' next basket came four minutes later on a three-pointer by Riggi. Brooke followed with consecutive baskets before the Vulcans responded with back-to-back three-pointers. Marten and Brooke each added a basket late in the quarter, sending ESU into halftime trailing 34-23. 

California opened the third quarter with a quick basket and ESU followed with one of their own after Marten grabbed an offensive rebound and finished. At the eight-minute mark, Brie hit a three-pointer to pull the Warriors back within 10, 38-28. Kringe cut ESU's deficit to nine points at 5:45 with a layup, making it 41-32. California then used a 9-4 run to extend its lead to 50-36. Kringe answered with a layup at 2:47 off an assist from Devine, and after a pair of turnovers by both teams, Brie hit a jumper with 0:33 remaining, assisted by Riggi. 

Riggi opened the fourth quarter with her second three-pointer of the game to pull the Warriors within seven, 50-43. Brooke scored her 12th point on a driving layup at 6:59, assisted by Brie. The Vulcans pushed their lead back to 15 with a three-pointer just under the five-minute mark. Brie added two free throws, Marten finished a layup, and Moyer closed the scoring for ESU with a free throw.

The Warriors return to action tomorrow at Slippery Rock, with tipoff set for 1:00 p.m.
