EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — Looking to claim the series sweep over West Chester, the Warriors fell 2-0 on Wednesday night for their first conference loss of the season. ESU drops to 4-1-2 in the conference, staying one point behind Millersville for the top spot as the Golden Rams climb up to 13 points, one behind the Warriors.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• ESU started the game hot, firing off two looks within the first 10 minutes, but the game began to slow down afterwards. West Chester took four shots before the Warriors could build momentum to their side. Play went back and forth down the stretch of the first half until the Golden Rams took advantage of a corner kick situation, scoring the first goal of the game with just over a minute on the clock.
• Out of the break,
Owen Rennie and
Jeter Cardona took chances that both were saved. After the second shot, the Golden Rams' offense charged down the field for their second goal. Despite ESU trying to create shot opportunities, none found the back of the net before time expired.
GAME NOTES
• This marked the first time in nearly a month the Warriors allowed multiple goals, a stretch that included their earlier win over West Chester. The last game with more than one goal scored by an opponent came on Sept. 16 against Lock Haven.
• ESU outshot the Golden Rams 14-10 and held the edge in shots on goal with five compared to their three. Rennie and
Steven Arias led the way in shots, tallying three each. Arias also led in shots on goal, being the only Warrior to record multiple.
