EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — After each team scored in the first half, the ESU women's soccer team tied with Shippensburg, 1-1, in a Saturday afternoon match at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors opened the scoring just about 15 minutes into the first half after building up to the game's first goal over that time.
Sophia Lowery got out of a crowd of three Shippensburg defenders near the left corner, finding
Kali O'Connell outside the top of the box. With one defender on her back hip and another charging at her, O'Connell got a shot off her right foot while sliding down, putting it just far enough to the right of Kirstin Brown, who couldn't completely stop it before it rolled into the net.
Near the midway point of the first half, the Raiders drew a corner kick from the left side of the field. After getting sent into the box, a clearing attempt went into the back of the net, as Shippensburg tied the game off an own goal.
Emmelia Rucks preserved the tie for the Warriors, coming up with a huge stop late in the game. Lannah Werynski was all alone from near the penalty spot inside the box, but Rucks stood tall and denied the opportunity to keep the score 1-1.
UP NEXT
