EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — In a down-to-the-wire finish, No. 6 Bloomsburg defeated the ESU field hockey team 2-1 at Whitenight Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The Huskies struck first after a scoreless first half, getting on the board in the third quarter. Off a penalty corner taken by Alexandra Bliss, she got the ball back inside the circle near the left post. She passed it out to Jordan Bond near the perimeter, who shot the ball through traffic and into the net in the opening two minutes of the half.
ESU evened things up off a corner of their own, tying the game with 12:49 remaining. After junior back
Alex Bandura's shot was deflected by a defender, freshman forward
Emily Dobrowolski gained control in front of the net for the equalizer.
While down a player for a yellow card, the Huskies scored a late go-ahead goal. Drawing a corner with 1:21 left, Genna Bush scored off an assist from Lexy Freed to give Bloomsburg the lead. ESU pulled the goalkeeper for an extra attacker and got a corner just before the final buzzer sounded. Molly Bross stopped a shot from fifth-year midfielder
Elaiana Rivera-Lagalla, but the Warriors got one more shot with a penalty stroke. Junior midfielder
Maddie Moline took it for ESU, but her attempt went just wide of the left post, as Bloomsburg held on.
