EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University women's volleyball team closed out its home stretch Saturday afternoon with a tough three-set loss to Shippensburg, marking the Warriors' first conference loss of the season. Set scores were 18-25, 20-25, and 24-26.
Jadyn Orava led the Warriors with 15 kills, while Kelly Crites followed with seven and Kailynn Dupre added four. Defensively, Harry Berry led the team with four assisted blocks, while Kyra Bishop and Rylee Ruggiero each recorded three.
Set 1: Shippensburg took the opening point before ESU responded with an early 4-0 run. The Raiders answered by tying the score at 8-8 before using a 5-0 run to take a 12-8 lead. A Shippensburg service error brought the Warriors within three at 14-11, but the Raiders responded with a 6-0 run to extend their advantage to 20-11. Kills from Orava and Ruggiero helped ESU pull within five at 22-17, but Shippensburg closed out the set with a 3-1 run, 25-18.
Set 2: The teams traded 3-0 runs to open the second set before continuing to exchange points and the lead. A 5-1 run by the Raiders put ESU behind, 17-13. The Warriors responded with a 6-2 run to tie the score at 20-20, but Shippensburg closed out the set with a 5-0 run, 25-20.
Set 3: ESU opened the third set with an early 3-1 lead and extended its advantage to 8-5 on a Crites kill. The Warriors maintained their lead with a 3-0 run to make the score 17-13. Shippensburg then used a 6-0 run to take a 23-19 advantage. Kills from Orava and a service ace from Bishop pulled ESU within two at 23-21. The Raiders recorded a kill to reach set point, but the Warriors battled back with a 3-0 run, highlighted by a kill from Orava and consecutive kills from Crites, to tie the set at 24-24. Shippensburg then closed out the set with a kill and an ESU attacking error, 26-24.
