SCRANTON, Pa. — With the Warriors earning the first score of the game early into the second half, they seemed to have locked a win over the Lackawanna Falcons. However, a game-tying goal in the final 10 minutes stole it away, resulting in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday afternoon. With its second tie in a row, ESU now sits at 6-3-4 on the season ahead of the final five games of the regular season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
•
Owen Rennie kicked off the game for the Warriors with an immediate shot, but much of the first half would be controlled by Lackawanna. It would take 20 minutes for ESU to mount another charge, leading to shots from
Jace Seara and
Steven Arias that were both saved. Freshman
Mak Zerjav got the last shot of the half, missing high of the goal in the 32nd minute of play.
• Rennie once again got the offense started for the Warriors, getting the first shot off in the first minute of the second half. This time it wouldn't be long before ESU regained momentum downfield, as at the 52-minute mark, Seara drove the ball down field before passing to a wide-open
Ryan Kiernan for the first goal of the game.
• Defense became the name of the game down the stretch, with just one shot occurring after Kiernan's goal until the 80th minute. The Falcons managed the ball into Warrior territory, getting the ball back after a missed shot and scoring the game-tying goal. Kiernan and
Jose Rosario took two chances at the net in the closing minutes, both were saved, leaving the game in a draw.
GAME NOTES
• Kiernan's goal puts him as the lone No. 2 scorer for ESU. His fourth of the season jumps head of
Jeter Cardona's three and behind just Arias with seven. This marks the most goals the junior has earned in a season, breaking his previous best of three in each of the last two seasons.
• With just eight shots in the whole game, this is the second time the Warriors have taken single-digit shots, the only other coming in the win over Millersville. Still, ESU held the shot advantage over Lackawanna, getting one more chance, and recording two more shots on goal than the Falcons.
