EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — Closing out the regular season, the ESU field hockey team fell to Millersville at home, 1-0.
The Marauders struck early, getting on the board in the opening minutes. Millersville got the game's first corner at 2:30 in, striking on it. Megan Alvarez took a shot that was saved by goalkeeper
Sydney Pope, but Breanna Aughenbaugh was there to clean up the rebound and put the Marauders ahead.
ESU didn't put their first shot on goal until the third quarter, as Millersville's defense held up for the majority of the game. Goalkeeper
Jet Vermeulen turned aside a shot from Lauren Kampi coming out of halftime to keep the deficit at one, followed by defender
Bailey Griffin firing a shot from the top of the circle that was stopped by Grace Williams.
Williams stood tall for the Marauders, shutting the door on a fourth-quarter comeback attempt. She made three saves in the final frame, stymying the Warriors, who generated six penalty corners as well. In the end, Millersville bent but didn't break in the final push from ESU, taking the ball to the corner or clearing it upfield enough times to hold onto the 1-0 lead.
