LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — Marking the first time a Warrior has been named the PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week this year, goalkeeper
Jet Vermeulen earned the honor for ESU after two strong games in net last week.
Vermeulen stood on her head against No. 1 Kutztown and No. 6 Indiana (Pa.), totaling 10 saves in 76:54 in net while also making four stops in a five-round shootout. To start the stretch for ESU, Vermeulen made six stops and shut down six penalty corners in the second half against the top-ranked Golden Bears, keeping the game close as Kutztown maintained constant pressure in the Warriors' defensive end. Getting ESU back in the win column, Vermeulen put together 50 minutes of shutout goaltending against the Crimson Hawks. Coming into the game after halftime, Vermeulen made four saves, including one late in the second overtime period, before sealing the game in the shootout round. The senior goalkeeper made stops on four of the Crimson Hawks' five attempts, securing the win after a scoreless 50 minutes in net.
It's Vermeulen's first career Athlete of the Week award from the PSAC in her fourth season, as she's compiled a career record of 19-6 in seven starts, going 7-2 this season with a career-best .860 SV%.
Vermeulen and ESU wrap up the regular season at home against Millersville this weekend, taking on the Marauders at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, before entering the PSAC Tournament.
