Warriors Claim Huge Win Over Vulcans to End Road Series

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Warriors took an important win over regional opponent California (Pa.), 5-2, on Friday. The victory elevates the team to 8-4 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
East Stroudsburg started hot in doubles action, with Lea Stefanovic and Theresa Bauer taking the first match, 6-2. Nia Vivas Montoya and Bega Gotor followed suit, winning their match 6-2 as well and giving the doubles point to the team. Despite having the point already, Jenna Kastell and Ariel Kelsick continued the attack with a 6-1 victory.

The singles matches didn't get off to as great a start for Audrey Conover, as she faced the first loss for ESU. Kelsick turned things around though, winning her match in just two sets and starting a positive wave for the Warriors. Kastell brought her first set to a tiebreaker, which she came out of with the win, leading to a shutout in the second. Looking to lock in the fourth point and the win was the freshman, Bauer. After dropping the first set, she came back to win 6-0 in the next. The third set became a battle between the two opponents, but coming out on top was Bauer, winning 6-4 and securing the dual win.

Stefanovic had yet another test of attrition, pushing her first set into a tiebreaker, but showing not to be as fortunate as her teammates with the loss. This carried into her second set where she showed a strong effort, but came up just short. Alice Ehrenlechner looked to be facing the same fate, unable to take the victory in her first set, but rallied back to a 7-5 win in the second to force a super tiebreaker. Ehrenlechner emerged victorious, allowing the Warriors to take the trip back home on a high note.

Last spring, the Vulcans finished right next to ESU in the final rankings. Combined with their wins over teams that have beaten the Warriors this season, this was a huge win that could have a favorable effect on ESU's postseason chances.

UP NEXT
ESU will return to Pennsylvania for an 11 a.m. face-off at Clarion on March 21.
