EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – ESU emerged victorious in a Saturday afternoon matchup against Goldey-Beacom, 6-1, claiming its first home win of the season. The Warriors improved to 10-4, having now won four consecutive contests.
HOW IT HAPPENED
ESU started off hot with its performance in doubles action.
Audrey Conover and
Alice Ehrenlechner opened the action, not dropping a single game in the set to win 6-0.
Theresa Bauer and
Lea Stefanovic repeated the showing of their teammates, winning with the same score and securing the doubles point for the Warriors.
Ariel Kelsick and
Jenna Kastell were the last to wrap up from the No. 1 spot, but they pulled out a hotly contested win, doing so with a 6-3 score.
Singles play had much of the same story for East Stroudsburg. Bauer and Ehrenlechner each were the first to finish their opponents, doing so with clean sweeps. Kastell was next up and answered the call, pulling off the 6-0 in the first set and finishing the match with a 6-2 set that locked in another win for the team. Kelsick, now playing with a guaranteed team win, didn't back down and took care of her opponent in just two sets. The Warriors' domination ended there, however, as Stefanovic went through an intense battle. After winning the first set 7-5, Stefanovic dropped the second, pushing a super tiebreaker. Despite putting up eight points, it was just short of a win, putting Goldey-Beacom on the board for the first time all afternoon. Conover had a similar battle, but instead she was the one pushing for the comeback. Dropping the first set was a rough start but the freshman rallied back to win the second 7-6. The super tiebreaker to end the day pushed both athletes to their absolute limits, going beyond 10 points, but it was Conover that came out on top after an 11-9 performance, allowing ESU to leave its home court on a high note.

The Warriors will continue their home stretch at 4 p.m. on Tuesday with a dual against Scranton, the last before conference play begins.
