SCRANTON, Pa. – Women's tennis had another powerful performance on the road, as they defeated Scranton, 6-1, in a late afternoon dual on Tuesday. This win elevated the Warriors to 11-4 on the season, extending their current win streak to five, with just a single loss so far in the spring.
HOW IT HAPPENED
ESU opened up the evening perfectly with the duo of
Lea Stefanovic and
Theresa Bauer pulling out the sweep in the first doubles match.
Jenna Kastell and
Ariel Kelsick fought hard, but fell 6-2. With the doubles point on the line,
Nia Vivas Montoya and
Bega Gotor were pushed far into the set, coming out on top with the 7-5 victory, earning the point for the Warriors.
Singles play showed much of the same strong performance from the team. Kastell earned her seventh straight singles win in just two sets, dropping only a single game.
Alice Ehrenlechner followed that up with a sweep of her own, extending her singles streak to 10. With the chance to clinch the win for ESU, Kelsick shut out her opponent in the first set and took the second, 6-1.
Audrey Conover found the same success as her teammates, also taking a win, allowing just a single game to be scored against her. Rounding out the lineup was Gotor, who ended up in a close first set, but persevered to take the set 6-4. The junior widened the gap in the second set, winning 6-2. Stefanovic rounded out the day for the Warriors with a very tough matchup from the No. 1 spot. She claimed two games in each set, putting forth a strong effort, but falling in both.
