ORLANDO, Fla. – In their second dual of the Florida series, the Warriors fell to St. Thomas Aquinas in a close 4-3 matchup on Monday afternoon. This marks the first loss for ESU of the spring season, bringing its record down to 6-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles play sparked a rough start for the Warriors with
Jenna Kastell and
Ariel Kelsick taking the first loss. With a win by default in the No. 3 match,
Lea Stefanovic and
Theresa Bauer put in a strong effort to earn the doubles point, but fell just short, 7-5.
Bega Gotor opened singles competition on a much higher note, pulling the clean sweep and giving East Stroudsburg its second point after the default by St. Thomas Aquinas in the No. 6 matchup. Stefanovic and Kelsick weren't as fortunate, taking tough losses at the top of the lineup. With the opportunity to prevent the Spartans from securing the win, Kastell took a highly competitive match to a super tiebreaker, emerging victorious and tying the team score 3-3. In the last contest of the day,
Audrey Conover's first set battle wasn't enough, losing 7-5 before dropping the second as well, stamping the loss for the Warriors.
