BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Warriors went on the road to take on the Bloomsburg Huskies, earning a win over the conference opponent for the first time since 1979, taking the match, 5-2. With this win, ESU has clinched the PSAC East regular season title, going undefeated within the conference, ending with an 18-4 record in the regular season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors kicked off doubles action with
Theresa Bauer and
Lea Stefanovic taking a 6-1 match victory. Bloomsburg answered by taking the No. 3 match, leaving the top set to decide the doubles point.
Ariel Kelsick and
Jenna Kastell found themselves in a highly competitive contest, but were able to emerge victorious, winning the set, 7-5, and granting the point to the Warriors.
In singles play, Kastell kept up the momentum for the team, claiming the win in just two sets, allowing only one game to be taken in each. Bauer followed, shutting out her opponent in the first set and giving up just a single game in the second, putting ESU just one point away from clinching the win.
Alice Ehrenlechner found herself in a tough matchup, falling short of winning from the No. 4 spot of the lineup. There to respond and clinch the match for the Warriors was
Audrey Conover, dominating her first set, 6-1, and following it with a 6-3 victory in the second, securing the fourth point and dual victory.
In the No. 1 spot, Stefanovic started out strong, taking her first set, 6-1. Looking to follow it up, the sophomore took three games, but it wasn't enough to stop the match from going into a tiebreaker. Though putting up a strong fight, Stefanovic was unable to come out on top. In the last match off, Kelsick found herself in a battle. The first set pushed into a tiebreaker which she came out of with the win before improving on her performance to earn a 6-4 victory in the second.
UP NEXT
With the regular season wrapped, women's tennis will prepare for the PSAC Tournament. By finishing at the top of the East, ESU has earned a bye from the quarterfinals. Semifinal competition is set to begin on May 1.
