EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Warriors kicked off the PSAC Tournament with a shutout 4-0 win over Edinboro in the quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon at Wolbers Courts. This victory sets a new single-season wins record for the team, now sitting at 19.
HOW IT HAPPENED
With Edinboro bringing a lineup of four players, ESU started the dual up 2-0, needing only one win in doubles to claim the point. That came from the duo of
Lea Stefanovic and
Theresa Bauer, winning their set, 6-3. This marks Bauer's 20th doubles win of the season, tying the single-season program record.
Needing just one point to clinch the dual win,
Alice Ehrenlechner stepped into the spotlight, winning both of her sets 6-3 to end the match.
Though the three other matches went unfinished, the Warriors put up strong performances all around, setting the tone for the postseason. Stefanovic pulled through a tiebreaker in her first set to win and was leading the second at the end of the match.
Ariel Kelsick also won her first set, 6-4, and though down in the second, she was within a game and primed for a comeback. While
Jenna Kastell fell in her first set, she took four games, as well as five in the second set.
UP NEXT
ESU advances to the semifinals, facing off against the No. 2 seed in the West, Slippery Rock, on May 1 at Bloomsburg, Pa.
