SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The ESU women's lacrosse team suffered its first defeat of the season in the PSAC Semifinals, falling 10-8 to No. 15 Kutztown.
NOTABLES
- The bulk of ESU's scoring came from Jolee Roth and Sadie Kauffman, as the pairing combined for seven points and six of the Warriors' goals. With three tallies each, Roth also assisted on a goal. Kauffman led all players with seven draw controls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- ESU got off to a strong start, outscoring the Golden Bears 6-2 in the opening 15 minutes. Kauffman and Katie Bullen scored two goals in the game's first five minutes, but Kutztown got on the board on a goal from Katie Yocum. ESU took advantage of Kutztown's penalties, scoring three man-up goals. Kauffman, Ariana Tucci, and Roth all scored to put the Warriors up by four heading into the second quarter.
- The second and fourth quarters decided the game, as Kutztown outscored ESU 5-0 in the even frames, using a 5-0 run in the second to go into halftime with a 7-6 lead.
- Kauffman and Roth scored the first two goals of the second half, as Kauffman beat her defender for her chance, and Roth buried a free-position shot. Although the Warriors regained the lead, Kutztown would even things up as Madison Wenner tied it with 4:25 remaining in the third quarter. In the fourth, Isabella Montuori scored the period's only two goals, advancing the Golden Bears to the next round.
