GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University women's volleyball team fell in five sets to Seton Hill in its first match at the Seton Hill Tourney on Friday night. Set scores were 25-16, 18-25, 22-25, 25-15, and 13-15.
Jadyn Orava led the team with 17 kills, while Kelly Crites followed with 10 and Rylee Ruggiero added eight. Harry Berry led the Warriors with three solo blocks and two assisted blocks. Kyra Bishop recorded 35 assists, four kills, and two assisted blocks.
Set 1: The teams began the set trading points before an ESU 7-0 run put the Warriors ahead, 11-6. ESU then extended its advantage to 10 points at 21-11 following a 5-0 run. The set ended with Crites' third kill of the set and a solo block from Berry, 25-16.
Set 2: The Warriors broke through after being tied early at 2-2 with a 6-0 run, highlighted by kills from Orava and Ruggiero, a solo block from Kailynn Dupre, and a service ace from Bishop. Consecutive kills from Ruggiero and Bishop extended ESU's lead to seven, 13-6. The score then became tied after the Griffins went on a 7-0 run. An Orava kill broke up the Griffins run but another 5-0 run gave them a four-point lead, 20-16. Kills from Orava and Ruggiero brought the Warriors back within two before Seton Hill ended the set with a 5-0 run to take the second, 25-18.
Set 3: An early 3-0 run by the Griffins gave them a 4-2 lead. The Warriors responded with a 7-0 run to take a 9-6 advantage. A 5-1 run by the Griffins gave them the lead at 11-10 before the teams traded points and the lead. ESU took a two-point lead at 19-17 on a Dupre kill and an Orava solo block. Seton Hill then used a 4-0 run to take a 22-20 lead, before the Warriors pulled within one at 23-22 after Crites recorded two kills. The Griffins took the third set, 25-22.
Set 4: The teams traded points to begin the set, while a block from Bishop and Berry gave ESU an 8-7 lead. After a long rally, Crites recorded a kill that sparked a 4-0 run by the Warriors to take a 12-8 lead. Ruggiero's kill, along with her block with Berry, put ESU ahead by five, 17-12. The Warriors won the fourth set, 25-15, to force a fifth.
Set 5: Orava started the fifth strong, recording all five kills in ESU's early 6-2 lead. A 7-0 run by the Griffins gave them the lead, 9-6. Two Griffin errors and a Crites kill pulled the Warriors within one at 12-11. A block by Berry and Crites kept ESU close, however Seton Hill took the fifth 15-13 after a kill and service ace.
