GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University women's volleyball team went undefeated on Saturday at the Seton Hill Tourney, earning a pair of four-set victories. ESU opened the day with a win over West Virginia Wesleyan before defeating Charleston in the afternoon. Set scores against the Bobcats were 27-29, 26-24, 25-14, and 25-14. Set scores against the Golden Eagles were 25-19, 25-20, 23-25, and 25-23.
Game 1 – West Virginia Wesleyan
Jadyn Orava led the Warriors with 22 kills, while Kelly Crites followed with 12 and Rylee Ruggiero added eight. Harry Berry led the team with one solo block and seven assisted blocks. Allison Flynn recorded a team-best five service aces, while Kyra Bishop added three aces and 46 set assists.
Set 1: The teams traded points to open the first set, with ESU holding a 7-5 lead. West Virginia Wesleyan later took the lead and built a four-point advantage at 20-16. A 6-0 run, highlighted by kills from Orava, Ruggiero, and Berry, gave the Warriors a 25-24 advantage. The Bobcats responded with a 26-25 lead before kills from Orava and Crites put ESU back in front, 27-26. However, West Virginia Wesleyan closed the set with a 3-0 run to take it, 29-27.
Set 2: The Bobcats jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the second set. The Warriors used a 5-0 run to pull within one, but West Virginia Wesleyan answered with another 5-0 run to regain a 12-6 advantage. The teams continued to trade points before a 6-1 ESU run tied the score at 23-23. A block by Berry and Bishop gave the Warriors a 24-23 lead, but a Bobcat kill tied the score once again. ESU claimed the set, 26-24, following a kill from Orava and a Bobcat attacking error.
Set 3: The Warriors took control early, building a six-point lead after a 6-1 run made it 12-6. A block by Orava and Berry extended ESU's advantage to 10 points at 19-9. The Bobcats put together a late 3-0 run, but the Warriors responded by scoring the final four points to take the third set, 25-14.
Set 4: The teams traded the opening points before the Warriors went on a dominant 10-0 run. ESU extended its lead to 12 points at 14-2 before a 5-0 West Virginia Wesleyan run cut the deficit to 15-8. The teams traded points from there before a kill from Crites sealed the fourth-set victory, 25-14.
Game 2 – Charleston
Orava's 28-kill performance through four sets set a new school record, surpassing Sarah Smith's 26 in 2018 against Shippensburg. Orava also posted an impressive .389 hitting percentage. Crites followed with 15 kills, while Ruggiero added eight. As a team, the Warriors hit a best .385 in the second set and finished with a .308 hitting percentage overall, totaling 62 kills.
Set 1: The Warriors opened the first set with an early 6-1 lead before a 7-0 Golden Eagles run put ESU behind, 11-8. ESU regained the lead at 15-14 on a kill from Dupre. The Warriors closed the set on a 9-1 run to take the opener, 25-19.
Set 2: The teams traded points early before a 7-0 Charleston run gave the Golden Eagles a 16-10 advantage. The Warriors answered with an 8-0 run to move into set-point position at 24-19. A kill from Ruggiero gave ESU the second set, 25-20.
Set 3: The third set opened with the teams trading the lead. Consecutive kills from Orava and a block by Ruggiero and Berry gave ESU a 22-21 advantage. The teams traded a point each before Charleston closed the set with a 3-0 run to force a fourth set, 25-23.
Set 4: Charleston built a five-point lead at 22-17 before the Warriors mounted a late comeback. ESU closed the set on an 8-1 run to complete the comeback and secure the four-set victory, 25-23.
