PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Women's tennis looked to continue their strong performance from the Husky Invitational as they went on the road to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on Chestnut Hill, but the Warriors fell 4-3 for their first loss of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
ESU started off doubles play dropping the set from the No. 3 spot, but
Ariel Kelsick and
Jenna Kastell were able to answer it with a 6-3 win. In the deciding match for the point,
Lea Stefanovic and
Elessa Jacobs found themselves down 2-5. However, after gaining some momentum, the duo went on a strong run to push the match into a tiebreaker where they were able to emerge victorious and earn the first point for the Warriors.
After the No. 5 match was defaulted to
Audrey Conover, ESU was up 2-0 as singles action went underway. At the top of the lineup, Stefanovic found herself battling through both of her sets. Despite taking four games in the first, she fell just short, leading to the second set which was even closer. It was pushed to a tiebreaker where Stefanovic tallied six points, but was just unable to close out the match, taking a 7-6 loss. Kelsick was able to score the third point for the Warriors, winning both of her sets 6-4. Kastell won four games across her two sets but fell in both. Jacobs competed from the No. 4 spot and took two games before dropping the two sets.
Stella Kammandel earned a game in her first set but ultimately was unable to win either.

ESU looks to get back on track, hosting its home opener against Post on Monday, Sept. 21 at 3 p.m. at Wolber's Courts.
