Warrior Defense Shuts Out Marauders for First Conference Win

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — After a goal from Steven Arias in the first five minutes of the game, a defensively focused ESU team shut out the Marauders for its first conference win of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors now improve to 1-0-1 in the conference and 4-3-2 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•    ESU quickly established its offense as its first shot was a goal from Arias off a Jake van Lierop assist just five minutes into the game. The defenses started ramping up after the goal though, as the Warriors only managed to get one more look at the net and Millersville was held to two more before the half.
•    The defense from ESU continued holding strong after halftime, holding the Marauders to just two shots in the first 25 minutes with neither being on goal. However, Millersville continued pushing the attack with three more shots by the 86th minute, all being saved by Gabin Meneyrol. Despite a couple more looks at the net, the Warriors prevented the Marauders from finding the net for the tying goal before time expired.

GAME NOTES
•    ESU gets its revenge from last year's season finale where Millersville eliminated the Warriors from the post-season. A win over a team that was expected to be at the top of the PSAC East in the preseason could be pivotal in ESU's playoff chances.
•    The Warriors took just three shots through the entire game, their fewest all year. Millersville was also held under double-digit shots, recording just nine with five of those being saved by Meneyrol.
•    With his goal, Arias becomes the first Warrior to cross the five-goal mark this season. The assist by van Lierop is his second of the year, getting both in back-to-back games.

UP NEXT
ESU heads back on the road, looking to build a winning streak as they take on the West Chester Rams at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, in West Chester, Pa.
