Men's Basketball Promotes Sean Hanna to Associate Head Coach

9/3/2026 1:00:00 PM

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The ESU Athletics Department made a second promotion of an assistant coach to associate head coach on Thursday, Sept. 3, announcing that men's basketball's Sean Hanna has been elevated to a new role.

Hanna returned to ESU in June 2021 as an assistant coach after spending two years as a graduate assistant from 2017 to 2019, entering his sixth season this year as a full-time member of the coaching staff. Since Hanna rejoined the Warriors' bench, they have gone 109-38 (.741), made the NCAA Tournament twice (2022-23, 2024-25), and have clinched at least a share of the PSAC East title two times as well (2021-22, 2023-24).

"I am very grateful to be promoted to associate head coach here at East Stroudsburg University," Hanna said. "During my time here, I have been blessed to work with great coaches, administrators, and players. I am very thankful to [Head Coach Jeff Wilson], who has helped me learn, grow, and develop within my role. I'm looking forward to help continue the winning tradition of ESU men's basketball."

"I am extremely happy to announce the promotion of Sean Hanna to the role of associate head coach," Wilson said. "This is an easy decision because of his loyalty, dedication, and work ethic to the program. As my right-hand man for the last five years, Sean has earned this promotion every day."

In addition to his duties as assistant coach, Hanna has also worked as the team's recruiting and academic coordinator. In each of the past two seasons, the Warriors have had the PSAC East Freshman of the Year on the team, with Evan Morton earning the honor in 2024-25 and Adrian Brito winning the award last year. Also in 2025-26, ESU was the lone team from the PSAC to earn the National Association of Basketball Coaches' (NABC) Academic Excellence Award, while also featuring seven players who were named to the NABC Honors Court. Primarily working with guards and wings, Hanna has helped develop players to extend their careers after college, including Cam Young, the 2024-25 PSAC East Defender of the Year, who is in the NBA G League, and Carlos Pepin, two-time All-Region honoree and 2022 PSAC East Athlete of the Year, who played in SCABB – Saint-Étienne Métropole last year.

The Warriors have never had a winning percentage below .700 during Hanna's tenure as assistant coach, consistently proving to be a top team in the PSAC East and in play to make the NCAA Tournament. With Hanna as a full-time coach, ESU has had four All-Region selections, four major conference award winners, 11 All-PSAC selections, and four players join the program's 1,000-point club. As a graduate assistant, Hanna was also on the bench for ESU's Atlantic Region Championship season in 2018.
