PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week (11/8/2025)
Redshirt Sophomore (2025): Led ESU in interceptions and was tied for fifth on the team in total tackles with 41.0... Recorded first career interception for 32 yards with four total tackles and .5 TFLs in season opener against Edinboro (8/28)... Blocked a kick and made four total tackles in win at Gannon (9/13)... Recorded a PBU and solo tackle in win at Lock Haven (9/27)... Registered three solo tackles and three assists in win against Bloomsburg (10/11)... Picked off two passes against Millersville, bookending a streak of three straight defensive stops for the ESU defense by interception, the first time since Nov. 7, 2009... Earned PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week for eight-tackle, two-interception performance against the Marauders (11/8)... Recorded first career sack with .5 against Clarion, as well as six tackles to end the season (11/15).
Redshirt Freshman (2024): Raquane Matthews emerged as a promising contributor in the defensive backfield, appearing in eight games and tallying 10 tackles and a forced fumble. He posted a season-high five tackles at California (Pa.) (Nov. 23), while also recording three stops and a pass breakup at Clarion (Nov. 16), reflecting both his physicality and instincts in coverage.
After seeing limited action in 2023, Matthews showed notable growth throughout the season—bringing energy, range, and sharp field awareness to the Warriors’ secondary. With continued development and his proven work ethic, Matthews is poised to elevate his impact in seasons ahead.
Freshman (2023): Appeared in one game, contributing with a tackle against Bloomsburg (10/21).
