Chadd Braine concluded his fifth season on the Warriors’ coaching staff in 2018. He will work primarily with the linebackers during the upcoming 2019 season.

Braine is a 1999 graduate of East Stroudsburg University and four-year letterwinner at defensive back from 1994-97.

ESU has had nine players named All-PSAC East since 2014 - defensive end Brandon Gattelli and defensive tackle Bryan Thomson (1st team), and linebacker Cody Simcox and cornerback Teron Dobbs in 2014; defensive end Ahmad McFarland, linebacker Sekou Jones and Dobbs in 2015; nose guard Marc Ranaudo (1st team), McFarland and linebacker Mike Wiand in 2016; and Jones and linebacker Dakota Everett in 2017. 

The Warriors also had the top two players in DII in forced fumbles in 2017 in free safety Billy Inge III and safety Justin Johnson.

Braine arrived at ESU after five seasons as defensive coordinator and academic coordinator at William Paterson University from 2008-12, where he also coached the linebackers and defensive backs and guided a defense that ranked as high as 10th in DIII.

Braine’s previous collegiate experience prior to William Paterson includes two years as assistant head coach, defensive coordinator and academic coordinator at Northern Michigan in 2006 and 2007.

He was the linebackers coach at Michigan Tech in 2004 and 2005. The 2004 squad won its first GLIAC championship and reached the NCAA DII quarterfinals.

Braine was also defensive backs coach at South Dakota in 2003 and linebackers coach at Ferrum (Va.) from 2000 to 2002, including the final two years as co-defensive coordinator. The 2000 defense led DIII in total defense, allowing 165.5 yards per game.

Braine began his coaching career at ESU as a student assistant in 1998 and graduate assistant coach in 1999.

He is also the founder of First and Goal Sports, LLC in Randolph, N.J., which runs youth football camps and clinics.

During his career at ESU, Braine was named to the All-PSAC East second team at defensive back in 1997 and played in 34 career games, including 26 starts.

He had 116 tackles, 5 TFL, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 17 pass breakups and 7 interceptions in four seasons. He compiled 55 tackles and 3 interceptions while starting all 10 games in 1997.

Braine was also a member of ESU’s track program and set a school record in the 100m dash (10.55) which stood from 1998 to 2009. He was third in the PSAC in the 100m dash (10.65) and third in the ECAC in the indoor 55m dash (6.62) in 1998.
