Otis Flowers is in his second season as a member of the coaching staff at ESU as the defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator.
In his first year with the Warriors, Flowers mentored first team All-PSAC East cornerback Lionel Mitchell, who represented ESU at the Cactus Bowl along with punter Nick Krut.
Flowers brought nearly 20 years of coaching experience to the sidelines at ESU. He is a 1988 graduate of Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., where he was a four-year starter and two-time All-American at safety.
His most recent college position was at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, where he was the defensive backs coach from 2004 to 2006 and was the tight ends coach and special teams coordinator in 2007. He was also responsible for football operations, NCAA compliance, recruiting, academic progress and scouting.
Flowers was a member of the coaching staff of Team Michigan of the All-American Football League last spring, and also had an internship with the Indianapolis Colts.
He began his coaching career at Buffalo State before moving on to the University at Buffalo, where he was the defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator from 1989 to 1994.
He was head coach at Niagara Catholic High School in 1995 and returned to the college ranks for the first of two stints as an assistant at Elizabeth City State (N.C.) in 1996. Flowers was also at Elizabeth City State from 2002 through 2004.
Flowers was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Urbana University (Ohio) from 1997 to 2000 and has also coached at the Apprentice School (Va.) and Livingstone College (N.C.).
